All the stories and pictures I've been reading and seeing have had me literally crying for happiness (such a rare, rare gift)! Especially, those of the elderly - as not so long ago being homosexual was illegal, and brutally discriminated against, and their love had to be hidden away like some shameful thing and in terrified fear of discovery. So very many ended their own lives rather than be forced to live like that (As the famous British genius Alan Turing did in England), others were beaten to death for being "fairies", as they still are in so many parts of the world, while in other parts of the world they execute them. And, though I don't believe that an issue of basic human rights should be decided by popular vote, I'm just SO VERY HAPPY that it was a landslide for YES! For LOVE! Finally! true equality to all citizens of Ireland (Well, we'll have to wait and see about the North, though). I'm very proud that here in France, it was the socialist majority government itself that stepped up and gave ALL it's citizens the right to marry in 2013, but I'm not so proud it took is so damn long to join the rest of Europe that had passed marriage equality years before, so we took 14th place in the list of countries to legalize gay marriage (but, unfortunately France is like that, always dragging its heels behind the rest of the EU - unfortunately, Sweeden and Denmark, France is not (though, luckily it's far from being the UK.).
At, least there is a bright little ray of hope today for love in the world, for a little human kindness and solidarity amongst all this horror, suffering, and greif.
Peace & LOVE! LOVE LOVE!
I wish I was gay and in Ireland right now! Well, the least I can do is celebrate by drinking Guinness tonight!
